Hyundai ix25 launch by September 2015 in India
The new Hyundai ix25 will be produced in India at the company’s existing plant in Chennai. Just like other Hyundai cars in India, the ix25 too will be heavily localized. Expect 90% localisation, so as to maintain a competitive price tag.
Codenamed GS as of now, Hyundai India has invested Rs 1,000 crores to meet 90% localization. Launch price of ix25 SUV is expected to be in the range of Rs 8-12 lakhs. Speaking about launch date, Hyundai had confirmed earlier that they will launch a new SUV before the festive season kicks in. A new report on Live Mint confirms that Hyundai ix25 launch could take place either in August or September 2015.
Currently on sale in China, Hyundai ix25 measures 4,270 mm long, 1,780 mm wide, and 1,630 mm tall. Once launched in India, the compact SUV will compete with Maruti SX4 S-Cross, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio.
Chinese spec Hyundai ix25 sports LED daytime running lights, sun roof, leather seats and power folding mirrors. On board, a touchscreen multimedia system is present while other features include cruise control, automatic air conditioning, push button start, reverse parking camera and other comfort and safety features. All these are expected to also make their way on board the India spec ix25.
To be offered in diesel and petrol engine options, Hyundai ix25 compact SUV has been spied testing in India on many occasions. Though there is no official word, the ix25 can get the top of the line 1.6l engines which currently powers Hyundai Verna sedan. Hyundai India’s 1.6l petrol generates 123 PS power and 135 Nm torque, while 1.6l diesel generates 128 PS power and 260 Nm torque. This makes it more powerful than its main rival, the Renault Duster.
Transmission will be taken care by a six speed manual gearbox, while an automatic could also be on offer. Apart from a standard 2WD option, a 4WD variant is also on the cards. Hyundai India will also export India-made ix25 to markets abroad.
Hyundai India is on a record growth in India. With the help of new Elite i20, the company managed to cross 4 lakh annual sales for the first time last year. This year, they have already launched new Verna, today is the launch of i20 Active, while in a few months time, ix25 will be introduced. These steps will help Hyundai India achieve their target of 5 lakh annual sales.
