After ix25, Hyundai India will work on a ix35 based SUV to take on Mahindra XUV500
Hyundai India has a strong presence in the compact car segment, but misses out on offerings in the UV segment due to which the company is planning a number of new launches. SUVs being planned by Hyundai India are the upcoming ix25 compact SUV later this year, a new MPV codenamed “IP” due for launch in 2017 and another Tucson / ix35 based SUV due for launch in 2018.
This new mid sized SUV will compete with Mahindra XUV500, and will sit above ix25, which will have Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano in its crosshairs. The all-new 2016 Hyundai Tucson (ix35 successor) was showcased at 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Already opened for bookings in Hyundai’s home market, South Korea; the SUV has seen immense response. The SUV has amassed over 4,200 orders in just four days of commencing bookings.
2016 Hyundai Tucson on sale in South Korea measures 4,475 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, 1,645 mm in height and sits on a wheelbase measuring 2,670 mm. The Tucson is powered by a 1.6 liter T-GDI petrol engine, 1.7 liter diesel and 2.0 liter diesel and is available in both 2WD and 4WD formats. The engines are mated to either 6 speed manual or 7 speed dual clutch transmission making it one of the first Hyundai’s to receive a 7 speed dual clutch transmission.
In India, do not expect the same options to be on offer. It will be more like the same 1.6l ones which are seen on current Verna, but in higher state of tune to deliver more power. Once launched, it will take on Mahindra XUV500, which is the current leader in the segment – generating about 2,800 units of sales every month.
