Hyundai Kona electric price reduced by Rs 1.59 lakh

Hyundai Kona Electric, launched in India on July 9th at an introductory price of Rs.25.30 lakhs, has received a price cut of Rs 1.59 lakhs. New price is Rs 23.71 lakh, thanks to GST reduced from 12% to 5% by the govt of India.

Kona Electric has caused an instant appeal to a host of buyers in the country. Till July 19th, the company had received 120 confirmed orders and 10,000 test rides, marking a notable achievement for the company.

Thereafter, the company has received several digital inquiries and has noted increased footfalls into company dealerships with buyers showing eagerness to know more about the Hyundai Kona Electric. Now, one of the first owners of Hyundai Kona Electric in India, has taken delivery. The electric car with green registration number plate was spotted by automotive enthusiast Faisal Jaleel.

Kona Electric is aggressively priced as it is brought in via the CKD route. It offers an all electric range of 452 kms and can be charged upto 80 percent via a fast charger in 60 minutes. There is also a portable 2.8kW charger to be plugged into a wall socket which can add 50km of range in three hours.

The Kona is presented in exterior color options of White, Blue, Silver and Black along with a dual tone of white which a black roof which is offered at a premium of Rs.20,000. On board features include a split headlamp design, LED DRLs, a sun roof, ventilated front seats and a digital instrument cluster.

It gets a 7” touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate controls, keyless entry and safety features among which are a total of 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, disc brakes on all wheels, ISO FIX child seat mounts, hill start assist and rear parking sensors with camera.

The Kona Electric uses a 100 kW electric motor offering 136 PS power and 395 Nm torque sending power to front wheels via a single speed automatic gearbox. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 9.7 seconds while range is at 452 kms on a single charge. There are four drive modes of Eco, Eco+, Comfort and Sport with paddle shifters to adjust level of regenerative braking among these four levels.

Hyundai Kona is on sale via the company’s 15 dealerships in 11 cities. It is the first long range EV to be launched in India and at this stage sees no competition. This will change with the new MG eZS electric SUV being launched later this year. Hyundai will soon announce price cut of up to Rs 1.5 lakh on the Kona electric as govt has reduced GST on EVs from 12% to 5%.
