Hyundai Motors sales accelerate 16.6 percent in month of May 2012

India’s second largest car manufacturer and the most successful passenger car exporter, Hyundai declared sales of 55,670 units in May 2012, an increase of 16.6% over their figures in May 2011. Sales within the country were at 32,010 units while exports increased by 42.2% to 23,660 units.

Segment wise sales for the month of May were at 48,250 units for A2 segment vehicles of Eon, Santro, i10 and i20; 7,306 units of A3 Segment vehicles – Accent and Verna while A5 segment vehicle sales stood at 43 units of Sonata and 71 units of Santa Fe.

Auto makers are trying to accelerate manufacture of diesel cars in the wake of the recent petrol hike. Sales of diesel cars have reached to 35% in the last fiscal while sales of petrol cars have fallen by 15%.

Hyundai Motors had announced a petrol price lock assurance program for protecting their customers from the recent petrol price hike. The program was meant to cover customers who purchased petrol models like the Eon, Santro, i10 and i20, Accent and Verna till May 31st. The recent petrol price hike is expected to adversely affect both buyers and auto manufacturers to a great extent.

Hyundai aggregate sales up 16.6%

New Delhi, June 1, 2012: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter registered aggregate sales of 55,670 units (47,762 units) in May up by 16.6% from the corresponding month last year, domestic sales were 32,010 units (31,123 units) up 2.8%  and exports were 23,660 units (16,639 units) up 42.2 %.

Commenting on the sales, Mr Arvind Saxena, Director, Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “The recent hike in petrol prices has depressed market sentiment, with the macro-economic indicators providing no cause for cheer, the demand outlook doesn’t look very bright.”

The segment-wise cumulative sales for May 2012 are: A2 segment 48,250 units (Eon, Santro, i10, i20); A3 Segment  7,306 units (Accent and Verna); A5 segment  43 units (Sonata); SUV  71 units (Santa Fe).
