Showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo for the first time, Hyundai will launch the Grand i10 NIOS turbo variant in the coming weeks.
Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS was launched towards the end of 2019, as a successor to the Grand i10. It is currently offered with a 1.2 liter BS6 petrol engine and a 1.2 liter diesel BS4 engine. Now the company has announced plans to introduce a 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine.
Called Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS Turbo, this new variant made its debut at the ongoing 2020 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. This new petrol BS6 engine promises to come in with output of 100 PS power and 172 Nm torque mated to a manual gearbox. It will be based on the Sportz Dual Tone variant of the NIOS and will see launch in India by March 2020.
The 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine was first seen on the Hyundai Venue compact SUV, and has just made its way onto the Hyundai Aura sedan as well. On the Aura, the engine is detuned and makes 100 PS power as against 120 PS and 172 Nm torque it delivers in the Venue. Ride quality is also expected to be tuned up with stiffer suspension set up, thus improving handling and brakes.
To set apart the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS turbo petrol variant from the regular NIOS, there will be a few exterior updates. These feature updates include ‘Turbo’ badging on its front grille and boot, a blacked out radiator grille, revised front and rear bumpers. For the first time, Hyundai will offer NIOS with dual tone colour scheme, with Nios Petrol Turbo. Until now, it is only seen with mono tone colours. It will also be seen with sporty black interiors with red accents.
All this would result in an increase in price of Grand i10 Turbo. The current Grand i10 NIOS is powered by a 1.2 liter petrol engine mated to a 5 speed manual / AMT while prices range between Rs.5.05 lakhs to Rs.7.19 lakhs. Expect the Nios turbo petrol to only be offered with manual option. Prices will be about Rs 50-60k higher than the respective petrol manual variant of existing 1.2 Nios petrol.
