Hyundai rail freight logistics – Moves 26 percent of Domestic Volume in 2024
HMIL transported 26 percent of its domestic wholesale volumes using rail freight in CY 2024. This accounts for 1,56,724 units. MMarking a positive shift toward sustainable logistics. 100 percent of vehicle dispatches to the North-East region relying on rail freight.
Between CY 2021 and CY 2024, cumulative rail freight dispatches reached 5,37,499 units. This consistent utilisation of rail freight is a key focus to reduce the environmental impact of logistics operations. By using the extensive network of Indian Railways, Hyundai relies on efficient and widespread coverage for vehicle distribution.
Sriperumbudur Dispatch Hub Powers Nationwide Deliveries
Rail freight optimisation has led to substantial benefits. In CY 2024 alone, 18,352 tonnes of CO2 emissions were prevented. Over the four-year period from CY 2021 to CY 2024, a total of 63,452 tons of emissions were avoided to support sustainability embedded in the company’s logistics framework.
Dispatches originate from Sriperumbudur, Chennai, leveraging Indian Railways’ far reaching infrastructure. This includes dedicated freight corridors and energy-efficient rolling stock, which provide the necessary support for Hyundai’s logistics requirements. These channels enhance both the speed and reliability of transportation.
North-East Deliveries Go All-In on Rail Transport
Rail freight offers distinct advantages. Reduced emissions, lower energy consumption, and the ability to handle large volumes efficiently make it an ideal choice. Hyundai’s logistics strategy optimises these benefits to meet its operational goals for timely dispatches.
The North-East region’s reliance on rail freight drives this point home. This strategic decision ensures reliable vehicle delivery in a region with unique logistical challenges.
