Hyundai Creta was the most sold car in the company lineup for August 2021 – It was also best-selling SUV in the country
Hyundai Motor India Limited, second to Maruti Suzuki in terms of sales volumes, has reported total sales of 46,866 units in August 2021, an increase of 2 percent over 45,809 units sold in August 2020. It was however a 2 percent decline over 48,042 units sold in July 2021. Hyundai sells cars such as the Creta, Venue, Alcazar, Santro, Grand i10 Nios, i20, Aura, Verna, Elantra, Kona Electric and Tucson in the domestic market.
Top Selling Hyundai – Aug 2021
It was Hyundai Creta that topped the company’s sales list with 12,597 units sold last month, up 7 percent over 11,758 units sold in August 2020. MoM sales however, dipped 3 percent as against 13,000 units sold in July 2021.
The Korean carmaker reported de-growth in the case of sales of the i10 Grand, i20 Elite, Xcent/Aura and also in the case of Santro, Tucson, Elantra and Kona. Sales of the i10 Grand dipped 21 percent YoY to 8,023 units, down from 10,190 units sold in August 2020. It was also a 14 percent MoM decline over 9379 units sold in July 2021.
Sales of the i20 Elite however, though it suffered a 5 percent YoY decline to 7,340 units, witnessed a 13 percent MoM growth over 6,518 units sold in July 2021. Hyundai now offers the i20 N Line, a sportier version of the Hyundai i20 in Indian markets. It is presented in two trims of N6 and N8, priced from Rs 9.84 lakhs to Rs. 11.75 lakhs.
The newly launched Alcazar has seen sales of 3,468 units last month, a 16 percent MoM growth over 3,001 units sold in July 2021. Hyundai has also introduced a new variant of the Alcazar SUV called the Platinum (O) trim which is priced at Rs 19.64 lakh and comes in with a diesel AT. Xcent/Aura sales dipped 4 percent YoY to 3,094 units and 23 percent MoM over 4,034 units sold in July 2021.
Venue and Verna Sales Increase
Venue and Verna sales increased marginally in August 2021 over sales in the same month of the previous year. Venue sales stood at 8,377 units, up 1 percent over 8,267 units sold in August 2020 while MoM sales noted a 2 percent increase over 8,185 units sold in July 2021. Verna sales on the other hand increased 4 percent YoY and 15 percent MoM to 2,098 units over 1,827 units sold in July 2021.
Hyundai Santro has seen de-growth both in terms of YoY and MoM sales while Tucson and Elantra sales though reported a de-growth in YoY basis saw significant increase in terms of MoM sales.
Only 1 unit of the Kona electric was sold last month, this was a 96 percent de-growth over 26 units sold in August 2020 and 23 units sold in July 2021. For the month of September 2021, to boost sales of the Kona electric, select Hyundai dealers are offering a heavy cash discount of Rs 1.50 lakh on the 2020 model year Kona EV. However, there are no offers for the 2021 Kona EV.
