Hyundai reveals its Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show where it was seen as a shiny silver five passenger crossover with small pickup truck bed. Aimed at Urban Adventurers for urban living during the week and for long off country activities on weekends, this Santa Cruz five passenger, four door crossover compact is ideally a CUV with all the utilities of a truck.
Hyundai designers move away from all the attributes of a traditional pickup where the Santa Cruz is concerned and offers features of efficiency and maneuverability which is seen in its bold new design, aggressive stance, side profile rake, Brembo brakes and oversized wheels wrapped with Michelin tyres. The Santa Cruz concept is dominated by a hexagonal grille, honeycombed headlamp projectors and prominent LED fog lamps.
It is powered by a 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine offering 190 hp power and 300 lb/ft torque while fuel efficiency is claimed to be high at 30 mpg. The engine sends power to all four wheels via Hyundai’s HTRAC all wheel drive system.
On board Hyundai’s Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept it is the innovative tailgate extension that deserves some mention. It comes into effect when more cargo room is demanded allowing the bed length to be expanded while an integrated rigid tonneau cover retracts when not needed but can be used to protect items sowed in the rear bed area.
