Recently rumours were rife of the company stopping production of Santro. But, Hyundai Motors India Limited has confirmed that they have no intentions of doing so. Santro from Hyundai was launched in India in September 1998 and ever since then has seen total sales of 18.5 lakh units, both where domestic sales and exports are concerned.
Sold as Atos Prime on export markets, Santro is sold only in petrol engined variants. Competing in India with the Maruti Suzuki Alti K10, WagonR, and Spark from General Motors, Hyundai’s Santro comes in a price range of INR 3.01 lakhs to INR 4.09 lakhs ex showroom Chennai. Not seeing much change in shape or makeup over the past years, Santro continues to see steady demand from various cities in India.
As far as new car launches is concerned, Hyundai recently launched the i20 Elite. They also announced that they have stopped all car exports to European markets in order to give more attention to domestic sales.
Hyundai plans to increase domestic sales to 4.10 lakh units from a current 3.80 lakh units while to compensate for European markets the company will be adding Latin America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Middle East to their export lineup.
