Hyundai Venue production starts – Aims to become a top selling SUV in India

Hyundai Venue SUV will launch in India on 21st May, 2019. Deliveries will start on the same day. Bookings have already opened. Hyundai registered record number of bookings on the 1st day – registering 2,000 orders in just 24 hours. This means Hyundai Venue for 83 bookings every hour. Company claims that the Venie is set to be a game changer for the company.

The new Hyundai Venue is also expected to make an impact in this segment; with the automaker also targeting sales of around 10,000 units each month. This could result in combined SUV sales of around 20,000 units for Hyundai (Creta registers 10k sales a month). If achieved, could make Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the largest SUV seller in the country, a position which currently is with rival Maruti Suzuki India.

Hyundai Venue has entered production today. Dispatch to dealers too has started. India is the first country where the Venue has entered production, and will be launched. After India, it is the US which will get the Venue, by the end of this year.

The Venue will come in with an eSIM with a slew of smartphone enabled features. It is the first ever connected car of India. It will boast of features such as a 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system (larger than Creta) with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 airbags, electric sunroof, reverse parking sensors and camera besides, hill hold assist, traction control, rain sensing wipers and ABS.

The new Hyundai Venue will be powered by three engine options. It will get a 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine offering 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque and a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine offering 112 bhp power and 172 Nm torque. These 1.2 petrol engine gets mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox, the 1 liter petrol gets 6 MT and option of 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox (first in segment). The 1.4 liter turbocharged diesel engine will be capable of 89 bhp power and 220 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox.

Hyundai portrays the Venue not as a car to their customers, but as something that they refer as ‘3rd space’. They claim that Venue will be the chill-out zone for the owners, after their home and office. Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon are the rivals of Venue, which is expected to be priced in Rs 8-13 lakh range.
