New Hyundai Carlino sub compact SUV, was spied on test once again. But this time, the compact sub 4 meter SUV was spied testing along with Maruti Brezza SUV. Being the best selling car in the segment, Hyundai is probably bench marking their upcoming new SUV with the Brezza – which is only offered with diesel engine as of now.
Hyundai Carlino was earlier showcased in concept format at the 2016 Auto Expo. Since then, two new compact SUVs have taken over the Indian market – Brezza and Nexon. Very soon Mahindra will be entering the race with XUV300.
In terms of dimensions, the new Hyundai Carlino will sport features similar to that seen on the concept with the front section getting low mounted projector headlamps with LED DRLs and a distinctive Hyundai hexagonal grille.
It will also be seen with a silver skid plate, secondary airdam, fog lamps, flared wheel arches, alloy wheels and roof rails. Also called the baby Creta, the Carlino its interior design from the i20 and will be seen with similar instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment, etc.
Hyundai Carlino, positioned below the Creta is expected to be powered by a 1.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is not yet on offer in India, but is offered with the new i20 in the international market. This engine offers 120 PS peak power.
It will also be powered by a new 1.5 liter diesel engine offering 115 PS power and 250 Nm torque. Both these engines get mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. AMT could also be offered. To be launched by mid 2019, expect the Hyundai Carlino to be offered in a price range of Rs 7-11 lakhs to take on rivals.
