The Chevrolet Cruze facelift with minor upgrades is set to be launched in India in a few weeks’ time and the folks at Overdrive have already driven it. Catering to the D-segment which is overshadowed by the SUVs, the updated sedan offers revised front fascia and additional equipment.
The new chrome finished dual port grille and sporty bumper with LED DRLs and chrome inserts have been derived from the Australia-spec Holden Cruze. The profile stays intact save for new alloy wheels. The rear fascia too remains largely untouched except for the integrated spoiler lip.
Inside the dashboard layout has been retained but the older infotainment system makes way for a new 7-inch MyLink touchscreen unit that is carried over from the Trailblazer SUV. The system incorporates a reverse parking camera, Apple iPhone/iPad Siri support but looses gives navigation system a miss.
The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine is a very capable performer and hence GM India didn’t feel the need to fiddle with it. The oil burner is available either with a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission, driving the front wheels. Power and torque figures stand at 166 PS and 360 Nm respectively.
Expect the Chevrolet Cruze facelift to be launched in mid-February with no significant hike in prices. The sedan will compete with the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra and Renault Fluence. The updated version will soldier on until the next gen version assumes charge in 2017.
