With the exciting dealer-level discounts of over Rs 18 lakh, imported Skoda Superb can be had at around Rs 36 lakh before taxes
Skoda re-launched Superb executive sedan in India in 2024, but as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), directly imported to the Asian subcontinent attracting hefty taxes. This resulted in the sedan being priced at Rs 54 lakh (Ex-sh). Only 100 units were planned to be imported into the country by SAVWIPL.
Considering the popularity of this executive sedan, one might think that the 100 units imported into India would have been sold out like hotcakes already. However, that’s not the case and dealerships have been offering discounts of up to Rs 18 lakh on Skoda Superb to clear inventory, as per a recent report.
Imported Skoda Superb Sedan
Among the executive sedans in India that punched way above their weight in their segment, Skoda Superb is a staple name. This executive sedan has been a favourite among buyers, but the stricter BS6 P2 emission norms were not very kind on this vehicle and Skoda promptly discontinued it in India.
In April 2024, SAVWIPL decided to re-introduce 100 units of Superb in India, via CBU route. The Superb Skoda launched in India in April 2024 was 3rd Gen model and not 4th Gen model which debuted in November 2023. Also, these 100 units that Skoda imported in India for Rs 54 lakh (Ex-sh), were manufactured in 2023.
So, buying them even at the fag end of 2024, proves to be 1 calendar year old. In 2025, these vehicles will be 2 calendar years old since the date of manufacturing. This could prove a big turn-off for a market like India. That’s where the exorbitant offers at dealer levels come into play in an attempt to clear inventory.
SAVWIPL claim that Superb sedan is sold out from their end, but dealerships still possess stocks of imported Superb sedan. Reportedly, around 20 to 25 units of imported Superb are still unsold and available to purchase from dealerships across India. These remaining unsold inventories are attracting hefty discounts of up to Rs 18 lakh.
Worth Buying Today?
Car buying decisions are subject to individuals and their interests. However, with the hefty discounts, one could get their hands on an imported Skoda Superb at around Rs 36 lakh, before taxes. At that price, imported Skoda Superb makes a lot of sense, as it packs quite a lot more features and equipment than locally manufactured units.
Features like an active tyre pressure monitoring system, dynamic chassis control, 9 airbags as standard, a larger 9-inch infotainment system and addition of an ADAS safety net were only part of the imported model. Powertrain continued to be the same 2.0L unit with 187 bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG unit. It was capable of sprinting to 100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds.
