Launched in India last year, at a starting price of INR 4.30 lakh, new Ford Figo has now been launched in Europe. Manufactured by Ford India, at the company plant in Sanand, Gujarat, the new generation Figo is branded as Ka+ in the European market.
Though similar in looks, the Figo for Europe has been thoroughly revised and updated with top notch safety features and technology. For eg, Euro-spec Figo comes with standard features like 6 airbags, Ford SYNC, hill assist, speed limiter, and a smartphone docking station.
The new Ford Ka+ replaces the old Ka in Europe. It sits below the existing Fiesta hatchback in the company line-up. Rivals to the new Ka+ in Europe includes affordable hatches like Dacia Sandero and Kia Rio.
The five-door hatch will be offered in two trims – Style and Zetec. Engine option on offer will include a 1.2 liter petrol four cylinder in two tunes – 70 hp and 85 hp. Mated to a 5 speed MT, mileage claimed is 20 kmpl.
Ford expects the 85 hp variant to be more successful of the two. Top of the line 85 hp Zetec variant is priced from £10,295 (INR 10.15 lakh). Features on offer with this variant includes heated front seats, cruise control, DAB radio, alloys, heated / folding ORVMs, and rear parking sensors.
Ford claims that “the 1.2-litre engine has been tuned to deliver smooth and responsive performance, with a broad spread of torque that makes the car easy and fun to drive in both city motoring and on longer journeys.”
Though slotted below the Fiesta, Ka+ is just 20 mm shorter than the more expensive / premium cousin. It’s length stands at 3,929 mm, while wheelbase of both Ka+ and Fiesta stand at 2,489 mm. Of the two, Ka+ is taller by 42 mm. With order books already open, deliveries of India-made Ford Figo will commence in Europe by October this year.
