Suzuki UK has announced that the new India-made Baleno. It will be on sale in the UK from 1st June 2016. To be priced between £12,999 and £15,349 (INR 12.8 lakh and INR 15.11 lakh), the new Baleno will be the company’s first European model to be based on Suzuki’s new lightweight platform.
Baleno made European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. In the UK, new Suzuki Baleno is being offered in two trim levels, the entry-level SZT and top of the line SZ5.
In the UK, the five-door hatchback will be powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder, BoosterJet turbocharged petrol engine which is capable of 111 PS (109 hp) peak power and 170 Nm torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 11.4 seconds on the manual transmission going down to 11 seconds where the automatic transmission is concerned.
It also gets a 1.2 liter DualJet petrol engine with Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) which Suzuki claims has a combined fuel efficiency of 70.6 mpg (24.99 kmpl) and 94 g/km of CO2 emissions. SHVS system’s lithium ion battery pack is positioned under the front passenger seats.
Standard features on the Suzuki Baleno includes satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, HID headlights, 16” alloy wheels and rear privacy glass. Top of the line variant gets automatic climate control, rear electric windows, LED rear lights, adaptive cruise control and 4.2” central color display.
Once launched, the new Suzuki Baleno will rival the Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta in the UK.
