There have been reports for some years now, about Suzuki working on a made in India motorcycle, which will be powered by a single cylinder 250 cc engine. Suzuki officials even went on record last year, to state that they might launch a motorcycle more powerful than the current Gixxer.
Now, it has been revealed, that the reports have been true. Suzuki is indeed working on a new Gixxer model, which will be powered by a 250 cc engine that will take on the likes of Yamaha FZ 25 and KTM Duke 250 in India. It will also get a fully-faired Gixxer SF 250 model, to take on the Honda CBR250R, Yamaha Fazer 25 and the likes.
Though, not much information is revealed yet. The bikes are currently under development at the Suzuki R&D in Japan. Patent images of the GSX300 which were leaked earlier, could give us a hint at the design language of the upcoming Gixxer 250 for India.
Speaking about engine, the new Suzuki Gixxer 250 will be powered by a 250cc, single cylinder, 4 valve engine which will use an oil cooler as against a liquid cooler so as to keep prices low. The engine will could generate power in the region of 25PS power at 8,000rpm and peak torque of about 24 Nm at 6,500rpm but. Transmission could be the same 5 speed which we see on the current Gixxer 150. Or it could also get a new 6 speed gearbox.
The Gixxer 250 will be positioned on the Gixxer 150 platform which will be modified to take on added weight and a more powerful engine. In terms of design, Suzuki Gixxer 250 will share design cues from GSX-S750 and GSX-S1000 bikes.
It will boast of a muscular stance with LED head and tail lamps along with an all digital instrument cluster. It will get telescopic forks in the front and monoshock at the rear while Gixxer 250 will also receive dual channel ABS. In terms of pricing it will be priced around INR 1.4-1.5 lakhs.
