During period April-July 2014, total passenger vehicle sales increased by 2.53% over the period April-July 2013. Passenger car sales increased 2.89% while sales of Utility Vehicle sales increased 7.36%. However, where sales of Vans were concerned, sales dipped by 12.91% during the four month period. Sales of Commercial vehicles saw a decline by -15.51% during the April-July 2014 period. Sales of Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles dipped -8.50% while Light Commercial Vehicle sales fell by -19.20%.
There was an increase in both three and two wheeler sales in the country during April-July 2014. Three wheeler sales increased by 15% while sales of Passenger and Goods Carriers increased by 16.24% and 9.53% respectively as compared to sales in the April-July 2013 period. Two wheelers continued to be in high demand across India during the period April-July 2014, with sales growth of 13.70%. Scooter sales increased by 30.80% followed by Motorcycles sales which increased by 4.26% while sales of Mopeds increased by 4.26% during the four month period as compared to the same period last year.
Taking into account exports during the period April-July 2014, total exports grew by 23.17%. Passenger vehicle exports increased by 3.83%, commercial vehicle exports increased by 19.78% while three and two wheeler exports increased by 5.27% and 32.72% respectively
