Indian Motorcycle range gets price cuts post GST by up to INR 2.2 lakh
Indian Motorcycle has announced reduced prices on three models among nine models on sale in India following implementation of GST.
American cult bike brand Indian Motorcycles has announced price cuts on three of its nine models on sale in the country which are sold through Polaris India. These bikes include the Indian Scout, Indian Dark Horse and Indian Chief Classic. Post implementation of GST in the country, prices of the bikes has been reduced by upto INR 2.21 lakhs.
Indian Scout model which was earlier priced at INR 14.75 lakhs now gets a price cut of 12% to INR 12.99 lakhs. Dark Horse on the other had seen a 9% reduction in price from INR 23.4 lakhs to INR 21.25 lakhs while the Indian Chief Classic model will now be available with a price tag of INR 21.99 lakhs, down 9% as against an earlier price of INR 24.2 lakhs.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) introduced in India from 1st July 2017 has brought with it a revision on prices for both bikes and cars. While luxury cars attract a tax rate of 28%, bikes with engine capacity above 350cc have also been levied with added cess. However, high end bikes have benefitted from GST and hence Indian Motorcycle has decided to pass on this benefit to customers. Besides Indian Motorcycle, other bike makers such as TVS Motor Company, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield, Yamaha and Suzuki Motorcycles have also passed on these GST benefits to customers.
