Indian politicians prefer luxury cars while election campaigning

Once upon a time it was the humble good old Ambassador that was the most preferred vehicle for the political class in India. But, today it is products from more exclusive brands such as Mercedes Benz, BMW and Audi that appeal to Indian politicians.

Now with the 16th Lok Sabha polls underway, wealthy politicians in the country show more affinity for the exclusive Mercedes’, BMW’s, Audi’s and Jaguar’s while local brands such as Tata Scorpio and Safari are also a favored polling vehicle.

Arun Jaitley, the BJP candidate from Amritsar has a number of luxury cars in his possession which include a Mercedes, BMW, Honda Accord and Porsche besides a Toyota Fortuner. Manoj Tiwari, also a BJP candidate is contesting the elections with a fleet that consists of Audi Q7, Mercedez Benz E280, Fortuner and Honda City GXI while Bollywood industry’s Dream Girl, Hema Malini owns a Mercedes and an Innova. She is being supported by her superstar husband, Dharmendra who owns a Range Rover, Maruti 800 and a motorcycle.

Actress Gul Panag, AAP candidate from Chandigarh has a TVS moped, a Hero bike and a Scorpio besides an Audi and Innova in her name. Krishna Tirath from Delhi has only a humble WagonR while Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit owns a Nissan Micra, 2 TVS bikes, 1 TVS scooty, a Mahindra Bolero SUV and a Hero bicycle which he purchased for a price of INR 3,500 in 2012.
