As announced in Railway Budget 2016-17 by Indian Railways, the first Deen Dayalu coaches have been successfully introduced. These modernized railway coaches for the General Class offer much better amenities, comfort as compared to older coaches.
The introduction of these coaches is a part of PM Modi Government’s commitment to offer better rail travel to the common man. It is being commissioned for those routes where demand is at its highest.
The newly developed Deen Dayalu coaches are being manufactured at Integral Coach Factory in Chennai. It sports host of on board passenger comforts to make travel more comfortable and convenient. These facilities include water filtration system, cushioned travel racks, hand grips at doorways, coat hangers and bio-toilets along with toilet occupation indicators.
Mobile charging facilities, LED lights and fire extinguishers with special anti theft arrangements have also been included while large capacity dustbins and aluminum interior paneling. Exteriors of Deen Dayalu coaches are seen finished with special Z shaped orange color bands and painted with anti graffiti coating.
These Deen Dayalu coaches will be attached to mail and express trains and along those routes where there is higher demand. For the current financial year, a total of 700 Deen Dayalu coaches have been planned with an estimated cost of around INR 81 lakhs per coach and each month will see the production of 15-20 Deen Dayalu coaches. Though offering travelers a host of facilities, fares have been retained at same rates.
