As per data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) the Indian passenger car segment saw growth of 7.8 percent in FY 2016 with a host of new launches. Some performed exceedingly well while some models failed to attract the attention of buyers in the country.
Surprisingly, the same 10 cars which featured in the best selling list last year, have featured in this year’s list. Same is not true for the worst selling cars list. It has four new entrants, that include Fiat Linea, Fiat Avventura, Chevrolet Sail UVa, and Hyundai Elantra. Linea Classic was launched in September 2013 while the new Linea was launched in March 2014.
Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the charts with five cars on the list of 10. Hyundai comes second with three cars while the third name in the list is Honda with two cars.
Best Selling Cars in India FY 2016
Speaking about worst car sales, Renault Fluence sits at the top for the second year in a row with sales of just 113 units in FY 2016. Mahindra Vibe is the second least selling model in FY16 with 609 units sold while Renault Scala came third with 830 units sold.
Chevrolet Sail UVa and Cruze also appeared on the list of least selling cars in India. 1,507 units of Sail UVa were sold while 935 units of Chevrolet Cruz were sold causing the two models to stand at No. 6 and No. 4 on the list of least selling cars in the country. In February 2016 not a single unit of Chevrolet UVa were either produced or sold.
Fiat Linea sales stood at just 1,447 units sold thus registering degrowth of 37% while the model stood at No. 5 position on the list of least selling cars in India. Similarly, the Fiat Avventura also suffered diminishing sales. Launched in October 2014, it was 1,906 units of the Avventura that were sold during the period 2015-16 while it featured at No.9 on the list of least selling cars. A 20.07% dip in overall sales of Fiat India was experienced during 2016 fiscal.
While Hyundai Motors continues to see promising results were sales of Elite i20 and Grand i10 are concerned, it is Hyundai Elantra that continues to face diminishing sales. Hyundai Elantra stood at No. 7 spot on list of least selling cars in India with just 1,708 units sold in last fiscal resulting in a dip of 42% in sales. However, backed by sales of Elite i20 and Grand i10, Hyundai Motors has recorded double-digit growth of 15.13% during FY16 with a total of 4,84,324 units sold.
Volkswagen Jetta claimed a No the 10 spot on the list with just 225 units sold.
Worst Selling Cars in India FY 2016
