Maruti Suzuki models once again ruled the charts with 13 models making its way to the top 25 selling car list for the month. Dzire, Alto, Baleno, Swift, WagonR and Vitara Brezza claimed the top 6 positions with the Dzire noting a 159% increase in sales.
During the past month, a total of 24,365 units were sold as against 9,413 units sold in May 2017. Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Omni, EECO, Ertiga, S-Cross, Ignis and Ciaz also featured on the list with Omni and EECO noting 30% and 36% increase in sales over May 2017. Sales of the Ertiga, Ignis and Ciaz dipped in May 2018 as compared to sales in the same month of the previous year.
Hyundai saw its Creta, i10 Grand and i20 Elite in 7th, 8th and 9th spot on the list of top 25 best selling cars in May 2018 while its Eon and Verna were at 21 and 25 spot on the list even as Verna sales increased 575% from 563 units sold in May 2017 to 3,801 units sold in the past month.
Honda Amaze, launched last month and at No. 11 on the list, saw sales increase 640% from 1,323 units in May 2017 to 9,789 units sold in the past month.
Mahindra Bolero was at No.13 with 19% increase in sales from 6,832 units sold in May 2017 to 8,126 units sold in May 2018.
Tata Tiago and Nexon at No.15 and No. 22 on the chart of best sellers contributed to a total of 17,489 units sold by the company in May 2018. Tiago sales were at 7,060 units in May 2018 along with Nexon sales at 4,308 units. The company also sold 3,071 units of the Tigor and 1,178 units of Zest during the past month while Bolt, Safari Storme and Hexa also contributed to sales.
Toyota Innova Crysta, Renault Kwid and Ford EcoSport also featured on the list of top 25 cars sold during May 2018. Toyota sold 6,071 units of Innova Crysta, an 8% increase over 5,643 units sold in May 2017. Renault Kwid sales dipped 26% from 6,990 units sold in May 2017 to 5,196 units sold in the past month while Ford EcoSport sales surged 40% from 3,565 units sold in May 2017 to 5,003 units sold in May 2018.
