Isuzu MU-X Blue Power at 2016 Bangkok Motor Show

The Isuzu MU-X Blue Power SUV has taken the centre stage at the Japanese UV maker’s 2016 Thailand Motor Show stall. The MU-7 successor recently received the new 1.9-litre Ddi Blue Power turbocharged (with intercooler) diesel engine in Thailand.

The modern diesel motor made its debut in the Thai-spec D-Max late last year. Available with a choice of a 6-speed manual or Rev Tronic automatic transmission, the motor generates 150 PS at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 2,600 rpm. The unit replaces the old 2.5-litre diesel engine but despite the smaller displacement it manages to offer 16 PS more power and 30 Nm of additional torque. It is also a good 20 kg lighter.

The MU-X continues to be available with a range-topping 177 PS 3.0-litre diesel engine which is available exclusively with the 6-speed Rev Tronic autobox. The new 1.9-litre engine is currently available only in 4×2 configuration.

The top-end variant of the Isuzu MU-X Blue Power is kitted up with features such as auto dimming internal rear view mirror with built-in car video recorder, reverse parking camera, cruise control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (with a 10.2-inch roof-mounted display for rear passengers) and so on.

Standard safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, BA, ESC, Traction Control and Hill Start Assist. As a part of the update, the Thai-spec Isuzu MU-X Blue Power gets a new Grey Iceberg Silver exterior color option.

The Isuzu MU-7 which is currently being sold in India has gotten obsolete, especially in comparison to its modern rivals. Isuzu India is expected to introduce the MU-X as a more compact and upmarket alternative in due course.
