Hyundai ix25 SUV and i20 Cross spied testing at night

Hyundai i20 Cross is based on the Elite i20 hatchback, which was launched last year. The new i20 from Hyundai is also the 2015 Indian Car of the Year. And considering that the i20 Cross is an even better version (ergonomically for car buyers in India), the i20 Cross is expected to be a stunner.

Hyundai i20 Cross

Hyundai i20 Cross will be powered by same engine options as seen on the Elite i20 hatchback. This will be in the form of a 1.2 liter four cylinder Kappa petrol engine and 1.4 liter CRDI diesel motor. Its 1.2 liter petrol engine will produce 83 bhp power and 113 Nm torque and will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. Its diesel engine will offer 89 bhp power and 219 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox. Expected to be priced over Elite i20 hatchback by about Rs 1 lakh, the i20 Crossover could come in a price range from INR 6-9 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Features separating the i0 Cross from i20 hatch will be increased vehicle height and higher ground clearance to offer better handling along uneven roads. There will also be body cladding all around the car, LED DRLs will be on offer, while alloy size is also expected to be increased.

Speaking about the ix25, just like the i20 Cross, the ix25 will also be launched in a completely new segment – where Hyundai India has yet to launch any products. Already launched in China, the ix25 for India is very similar to the one on sale in China. Codenamed GS as of now, ix25 will be offered in petrol and diesel engine options, probably the same one’s on board the new Verna.

Once launched, Hyundai ix25 will compete with the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrarno, Mahindra Scorpio and soon to be launched Maruti SX4 S-Cross. Price range of new ix25 is expected to be in the Rs 8-12 lakh bracket.
