Jaguar back in the racing circuit, this time with an all electric car

Ever since Jaguar sold its Formula 1 team to Red Bull in 2004, the company has been off the racing circuit. Jaguar is slated to be back to compete in FormulaE’s third season that gets off to a flying start in the fall of 2016. The company is working on an electric car which will be their entry in the only global electric powered single seater car championship.

Dubbed the Jaguar E-Pace, their entry into FormulaE will aid the company in further development of electric powertrain technologies for upcoming electric powered production models. For development of this electric racer, Jaguar is working closely with Williams Advanced Engineering.

Commenting on this participation on the racing circuit, Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director for Jaguar Land Rover has also stated that the competition would help the company to produce and test advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions. With technical support of the Jaguar Land Rover electric racer being transferred to Spark Racing Technology, Williams Advanced Engineering will team up with Jaguar.

Williams will be the team’s technical partner for the company’s racing team while they will also work on electric road car projects offering the same technology. Williams is also sole supplier of batteries for FIA FormulaE Series and has recently upgraded their 2016 packs offering even better speed for the upcoming season.

An all electric crossover is also under development at Jaguar which will be the first from company’s all electric models planned for the future. This upcoming crossover will have a 300 mile driving range and is slated to go on sale in 2017.
