Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two wheeler makers announced total sales to the extent of 4,87,088 units in January 2017. This was a significant 14% drop in sales as compared to sales of 5,63,348 units sold in January 2016 but was a vast improvement as compared to sales in December 2016 which stood at 3,30,202 units.
During the past month, the company expanded its footprints to Argentina with the new Glamour officially launched in the country. As on date, Hero MotoCorp has operations in 35 countries across Asia, Africa and South and Central America. The company’s rally racing team Hero MotoSports also made their debut at the Dakar Rally.
Honda
Honda Two Wheelers registered a 2% growth in domestic sales during January 2017. Domestic sales stood at 3,68,145 units as against 3,61,721 units sold in January 2016. Total sales stood at 3,89,486 units in January 2017 as compared to 3,78,689 units sold in January 2016 registering a 3% growth.
The company officially launched the new Adventure and Chrome variants of the Navi while the new CB Unicorn 160 was also introduced last month with new visor, fresh graphics and a new Matte Marvel Blue color.
Bajaj
Bajaj Auto Limited announced an 18% dip in sales during January 2017 both where domestic sales and exports were concerned. Bajaj Auto sold 2,02,209 two wheelers during the past month as compared to 2,01,233 units sold in January 2016 while where domestic sales were concerned, 1,72,101 units were sold in January 2017 as against 1,72,162 units sold in January 2016. Taking only scooter sales into account, sales increased by 12% in January 2017 to 70,049 units sold in the past month as against 62,552 units sold in January 2016.
In January, Bajaj Auto sold a total of 1,19,803 lakh motorcycles, down 15% as compared to 1,40,853 units sold in the same period last year. During the past month, motorcycle exports stood at 92,021 down 18% from the 1,12,135 sold in January 2016.
TVS
TVS Motor Company also announced a dip in January sales during which month the company registered sales to the extent of 2,07,059 units. The company has sold 2,08,485 units in January 2016. Domestic two wheeler sales stood at 1,72,101 units in January 2017 as compared to 1,72,162 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Scooter sales increased by 12% to 70,049 units in January 2017 as against 62,552 units sold in January 2016 while motorcycle sales dipped to 60,275 units in the past month from 83,374 units sold in January 2016. Two wheeler exports of TVS Motors in January 2017 went down to 30,108 units as compared to 29,071 units in January 2016.
Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield sales increased 25% in January 2017. The company sold a total of 59,676 units in January 2017 as against 47,710 units sold in January 2016. Domestic sales were up 23% from 47,140 units sold in January 2016 to 58,133 units sold in the past month. Exports also surged 171% from 570 units exported in January 2016 to 1,543 units exported in the last month.
Yamaha
Yamaha Motor India have yet to announce their January sales but the Japanese two wheeler major is targeting sales to the extent of 1 million units in India this year. Last month the company launched the new 250cc FZ 25 priced at INR 1.2 lakhs and expects its premium bikes and scooters to allow it to achieve this target.
