It looks like Jawa Motorcycles, an iconic brand which is set to be revived by Mahindra, is likely to make its comeback in India on November 15. The brand will specialize in retro classic models which would invoke nostalgia among motorcycle enthusiasts in the country.
Mahindra is expected to make an official announcement regarding it’s future plans with Jawa next month. The brand could also possibly reveal its first products while price announcement is expected towards the end of this year. Deliveries of new Jawa motorcycles are slated to commence in early 2019.
Classic Legends, Jawa brand’s parent company which is a subsidiary of Mahindra, has recently revealed the engine that would power the first Jawa motorcycle. The beautifully detailed 293 cc single-cylinder fuel-injected liquid-cooled engine shares its bore and stroke with the Mahindra Mojo’s motor but everything else has been developed from the scratch. The motor develops 27 hp and 28 Nm of torque.
The company says that its engineers have focused on achieving an exhaust note which is as close as possible to the original motorcycle of yesteryear. The engine is likely to be mated to a conventional 5-speed transmission which would focus on delivering a good low- and mid-range torque.
With a retro-classic design which will derive a lot of cues from the original Jawa models, the new motorcycles would be positioned to take on the Royal Enfield Bullets and Classics. The RE’s have been having a good run without any direct challengers and that would change once the Jawa motorcycles enter the field.
It’s being reported that Classic Legends would be launching 3 new models in the foreseeable future and the displacement range would be from 250 to 400 cc. We should be knowing more details about the new Jawa products come next month.
