Jawa rear disc, dual ABS launched- Expensive than Royal Enfield 350 ABS

At the time of launch last month, Jawa Motorcycles did not offer their motorcycles with a rear disc brake. This meant that the Jawa motorcycles – Jawa and Jawa 42 were only offered with a front disc brake and a rear drum brake. The front disc brake was equipped with single channel ABS.

This had left a lot of enthusiasts upset, as more and more riders are opting for dual channel ABS system these days, keeping safety in mind. The reason behind not giving rear disc brake, was not only to keep the price in check, but also to give the bike an aesthetic appeal like no other.

But it seems that the demand of rear disc brake with ABS has been more than expected, thus resulting in Jawa announcing the launch of dual disc brake option on both their motorcycles – Jawa Classic and Jawa 42. Price of Jawa with rear disc brake with dual ABS starts from Rs 1,63,942 and that of Jawa 42 with starts from Rs 1,72,942.

This means, that compared to the regular Jawa and Jawa 42 with rear drum brake, the rear disc with dual ABS variants are about Rs 9k more expensive. Both variants are on offer. In comparison, prices of rival Royal Enfield Classic 350 Signals dual ABS is Rs 1.62 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom.

Jawa reveals – “Customers who have already made online bookings will be able to opt for Dual Channel ABS on the website soon, without affecting their booking sequence. However, due to the late availability of Dual ABS variants, their deliveries will begin after June 2019. The priority of delivery will be as per their queue within the Dual Channel ABS subset of the overall bookings.”

Jawa has also tied up with finance partners. These are – HDFC Bank, Tata Capital, ICICI Bank, Mahindra Finance, Capital First (now IDFC Bank), L&T Finance Limited, Hinduja Leyland Finance at the national level in addition to regional partners. Mahindra First Choice Wheels is their Exchange partner.

Jawa Motorcycles are a direct rival to Royal Enfield, which is the best selling brand in the segment. Jawa is targeting Royal Enfield customers by opening their dealerships next to Royal Enfield showrooms at prominent locations. Only time will tell if Jawa can manage to topple Royal Enfield, or end up like Bajaj Dominar.
