Jeep C-SUV (Project 551) confirmed for 2016 LA Auto Show

The Jeep C-SUV which is also known by its Brazilian codename Project 551 is steadily approaching its world premiere. The test mules have been doing advanced stages of testing in Brazil and here are the latest set of spyshots.

Though the prototypes are fully camouflaged, it easy to observe that they are sporting production-ready body panels. The model is likely to make its debut at Sao Paulo Motor Show in early November this year. Though its Sao Paulo debut is not yet confirmed, LA Auto Show has confirmed its debut. LA Auto Show dates are 14th Nov to 27th Nov.

The C-SUV will replace the Liberty and Compass models.

Brazil and India will be the primary production locations of the new Jeep C-SUV which will be positioned above the Renegade and below the Cherokee. Brazil will cater to the North and South America market, while India will cater to Europe and Asian markets.

The new C-Jeep is a global SUV. It would act as a single product successor for the Liberty and Compass models. Fiat-Tata JV plant at Ranjangaon will be expanded to accommodate the new Jeep’s production.

The recent spyshots show that the vehicle will continue to adopt a traditional boxy styling and trademark grill with vertical slots. The projector headlamps with integrated daytime running lights and LED taillights are also clearly visible in these set of pictures.

FCA India will be manufacturing the RHD version of the SUV.

Based on the Renegade’s platform, the C-SUV is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines. Higher variants will be offered with a 4×4 system. Like every other Jeep, the new model would be boasting of above par off-road capabilities. In India, it will be priced in the INR 20 lakh range.
