Jeep Compass, launched in India at a base price of INR 14.95 lakhs is set to take on Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta and Tata Hexa.

The recently launched Jeep Compass SUV compete head on with the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa among other in its segment. The Jeep Compass eagerly awaited by buyers in India and launched at an affordable price, it is set to take on competition not only where price is concerned but also in design, engine, safety features and infotainment features. The recently launched Jeep Compass sports distinctive Jeep DNA. It bears a strong resemblance to the Jeep Grand Cherokee with bold likes and chrome lined Iron Man inspired LED headlamps and tail lamps. Exteriors also sport an iconic 7 slat front grille in gloss black, chrome surrounds and flared wheel arches with shark fin shaped rear D Pillars. While its exterior design is sporty and smart while interiors are seen with premium fittings with Ski-Grey McKinley leather upholstery, comfortable seating and a host of onboard infotainment features.

Hyundai Creta on the other hand follows Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture 2.0 design language. It gets design elements borrowed from the Santa Fe and sports an aggressive front fascia, sporty bumper, silver skid plates and chrome grille. It also receives new headlamps with silver accents, integrated LED DRLs and muscular wheel arches. Body colored ORVMs, roof mounted spoiler and distinctive tail lamps are also a part of its exterior design. Interiors of the Hyundai Creta are rich in features with several comfort and connectivity conveniences. The SUV also gets a large boot space of 400 liters.

The cheetah inspired Mahindra XUV500 is pretty much laden with features and follows a distinctive Mahindra design. It gets new headlamps, LED accents and a new bumper while it sits on new alloy wheels. A new bonnet design, chrome accents and new skid plate at the bottom of the front bumper are also evident. Interiors are in black and beige to give it a more premium stance.

Tata Hexa follows Tata’s Impact design language designed by Tata design studios at India, Italy and the UK. Hexa receives a muscular front bumper, a large gloss black grille and projector headlamps. Interiors are premium with black and silver accents, third row adult seats and a host of driver and passenger comforts.

Jeep Compass is powered by two engine options that include a 2.0 liter Multijet diesel engine offering 170 hp power and 350 Nm torque and a 1.4 liter Multiair petrol engine offering 160 hp power and 250 Nm torque. Both engines get mated to 6 speed manual and 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission options.

Hyundai Creta gets a 1.6 liter CRDi engine offering 126 bhp power and 265 Nm torque. The diesel range gets a choice of 126 bhp, 1.6 liter CRDi VGT and 88 bhp 1.4 liter CRDi mated to a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic. Mahindra XUV500 is powered by a 2.2 liter mHawk diesel engine offering 140 hp power and 330 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed gearbox.

Tata Hexa engine specifications includes a Varicor 400 2.2 liter turbocharged, 4 cylinder, diesel engine offering 156 hp power and 400 Nm torque that gets mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The base level XE trim gets a Varicor 320 engine offering 148 bhp power and 320 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.

Safety and Comfort Features

In terms of safety and comfort, the new Jeep Compass has them all. Offered on three variants of Sport, Latitude and Limited, the Jeep Compass comes in with a 7” UConnect infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also receives ABS, EBD and ESP which are offered as standard while optional safety features include Panic Brake Assist, Brake Booster Failure Compensation, Roll Mitigation, Brake Pre-Fill and 6 airbags.

Hyundai Creta receives a 7” infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Fog lamps, climate control, electric ORVMs, parking sensors, push button start, rear parking camera, vehicle stability management and airbags are also a part of the safety features offered according to trim levels.

Mahindra XUV500 gets electric sunroof with anti pinch and a 6way adjustable driver’s seat. It is seen with keyless entry, pushbutton start and rear camera. It receives a 7” touchscreen and logo projection of the ORVMs besides a number of Connected Apps on its infotainment system.

Tata Hexa receives projector headlamps, electric ORVMs, rear AC vents on lower trims and automatic climate control on top end variants. LED DRLs, side body cladding, fog lamps at the front and wrap around tail lamps at the rear along with rear spoiler is also a part of its features. The Hexa sits on 19” cut alloy wheels.
