Jeep Grand Cherokee India launch

Automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) plans launch of the Jeep range of cars in India.

Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler will be showcased at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, following which launch in India is on the cards. Confirmed by FCA President and Managing Director Kevin Flynn, the launch in India will also see the company set up separate sales networks in five major metros.

Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler will be launched together in India early next year, where they will come in as completely built units. The company plans to have around 20-25 dealerships in India by the end of next fiscal year.

The idea is to get the base ready before Jeep India launches their new C segment SUV. This SUV will be locally manufactured and compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and the likes. Apart from being sold in India, this new SUV will also be exported to many countries around the globe, including Europe.

jeep on test in india

New Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee have been on test in India since 2013.

Fiat sales in India have been far below expectations. The company has failed to reach a larger audience with their new range of cars – Punto, Avventura and Linea. But, the company has plans in place to set things moving.

First-up was to introduce the Abarth brand, which was successfully done earlier this year. Next is to launch Punto and Avventura Abarth variants later this year. Early next year will see Jeep launch in India. 2017 will see the launch of their new SUV, and the much awaited Linea replacement – Egea sedan, which will be followed by new gen Punto.
