But, it is still not clear as to which model year of Grand Cherokee will be introduced in India, as both 2011, and 2014 model year variants have been spied. Fiat India is mum on the matter, as no information was revealed when we last met the management at their new dealership opening. The only point they confirmed was the launch of Jeep brand of cars by year-end.
On the condition of anonymity, a person close to the development of Jeep brand in India, tells us that the first Jeep cars will be launched by October end, and this will be in the form of 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2010 Wrangler. So what about the Wrangler Unlimited and 2014 Grand Cherokee? The person adds that they are just being tested to fine tune for a later launch, probably later next year.
2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was introduced earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show in January. Offered in Laredo, Laredo E, Limited, Overland, Overland Summit, and SRT8. India is expected to get the Overland Summit, as they are the one’s spied testing in India. Engine option to be offered will be a 3.0L diesel 4×4 offering 243 PS and 569 Nm torque with 8 speed automatic with paddle shifters.
