John Kerry’s motorcade in minor accident during Road Safety Week in India
As John Kerry was leaving after attending the 7th Vibrant Gujarat Summit, his motorcade met with an accident. While Kerry was in the first of these two vehicles which met with this collision, he did not receive any injuries but the other car in the motorcade had to be switched after which the motorcade proceeded to the airport.
John Kerry was in Ahmedabad to attend an international investment conference and to prepare for Barack Obama’s trip to India later this month. Kerry also visited the Ford India upcoming manufacturing unit in Sanand, Gujarat from where the company expects to double production capacities in India.
This is Ford’s second plant in India. The company will be investing US$ 1 billion. The plant is expected to be completed by early 2015 and will have installed capacity of 2.4 lakh vehicles and 2.7 lakh engines per annum. With this new plant in Sanand and the existing manufacturing unit at Chennai, Ford India’s total installed capacity will increase to 4.4 lakh vehicles and 6.1 lakh engines.
It is also from this new plant that Ford India plans on expanding exports. Ford India intends to expand its global markets from a current 35 to 50 once this new Sanand plant is fully commissioned.
