Kia has discontinued diesel MT variants from its line-up of Carens, Sonet and Seltos- These have now been replaced by IMT
Ahead of the March 31st deadline for BS6 Phase II emission norms, Kia has launched updated versions of Carens, Seltos and Sonet. Prices have been increased for select variants. Kia has also updated powertrain options for Carens, Seltos and Sonet.
Seltos, Sonet updates, new prices
BS6 Phase II versions of Seltos and Sonet have also received the diesel-iMT powertrain. New starting prices are Rs 10.89 lakh and Rs 7.79 lakh, respectively. Seltos will also be getting the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor in place of the earlier 1.4-litre turbo unit.
Seltos 1.5-litre petrol base variant has become costlier by Rs 20k, whereas other variants will cost Rs 25k more. In case of Seltos 1.5-litre diesel, a uniform price hike of Rs 50k is applicable across all variants. Top-spec X Line 1.5 gets only automatic option, available at a starting price of Rs 19.65 lakh.
Kia Sonet 1.2-litre petrol variants will now cost up to Rs 25k more. The 1.2-litre engine makes 83 PS / 115 Nm and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Prices of Sonet 1.0-litre turbo petrol variants have been increased in the range of Rs 19k to Rs 25k. This engine makes 120 PS / 172 Nm and is mated to either a six-speed iMT or seven-speed DCT. In case of Sonet 1.5-litre diesel variants, a uniform price hike of Rs 50k is applicable.
Carens BS6 Phase II updates, new prices
Carens will continue its journey as a premium alternative to Maruti Ertiga and XL6. Carens also goes up against Toyota Innova HyCross and select variants of Toyota Innova Crysta. Seltos will continue to rival Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota HyRyder and Volkswagen Taigun. Sonet competes with Brezza, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.
Updated Kia Carens is available in the price range of Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Updates include a new, more powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor. It replaces the earlier 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit. The new turbo petrol motor delivers 20 PS more power. Transmission choices have been updated with an iMT in place of manual transmission. The other option is 7-speed DCT. Excluding base-spec Premium variant that will cost Rs 45k more, all other turbo petrol variants of Carens have become costlier by Rs 50k.
Kia has introduced iMT for the 1.5-litre diesel motor as well. iMT replaces the earlier manual transmission. The 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission has been retained. The diesel unit makes 116 PS and 250 Nm. Variants that have received iMT have become costlier by Rs 50k. Only exception is Luxury Plus 7-seater that costs Rs 45k more. Diesel option is available with only top-spec variant of Carens.
Carens BS6 Phase II version now offers more premium features as standard. For example, the 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster is now standard. It was earlier offered from Prestige variant onwards. Prestige Plus variant has been equipped with a leather-wrapped gear knob that was earlier available with top-spec variants. Another update is Alexa integration within Kia’s connected car platform.
