Kia Sonet and Seltos SUVs contributed to more than 50 percent of total sales in April 2023
Kia, among the top 5 car brands in India, owes its success to the Seltos and Sonet that contributes most to sales each month. For the period Jan-April 2023, the company has reported a 24 percent YoY growth as compared to sales during the same period of 2022.
Kia sales in April 2023 stood at 23,216 units which was a 22.07 percent growth over 19,019 units sold in April 2022. This was a volume increase of 4,197 units. MoM sales also improved by 7.98 percent over 21,501 units sold in March 2023.

Kia Sonet topped the sales list with a significant increase in sales. Sales stood at 9,744 units in April 2023 which was an 80.31 percent YoY growth over 5,404 units sold in April 2022. This was a volume increase of 4,340 units with the Sonet commanding a 42.25 percent share in the company portfolio. On a MoM basis, Sonet sales improved by 12.30 percent from 8,677 units sold in March 2023 when share was at 40.36 percent.
Of the Seltos SUV, that rivals the likes of Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara, the company sold 7,213 units in the past month. This was a YoY de-growth of 3.90 percent over 7,506 units sold in April 2022. MoM sales however, improved by 10.05 percent from 6,554 units sold in March 2023. This took share up to 31.27 percent from 30.48 percent.
Kia Carens was at No. 3 with 6,107 units sold in April 2023, up 6.13 percent from 5,754 units sold in April 2022. It was relatively flat MoM growth by 0.08 percent over 6,102 units sold in March 2023. This negative growth in April 2023 related to a fall in percentage to 26.48 percent from 28.38 percent held in March 2023.
Kia Carnival has not been doing too well in the Indian market. Sales dipped 57.18 percent YoY to 152 units in April 2023 from 355 units sold in April 2022. MoM sales were also in the red by 9.52 percent from 168 units sold in March 2023.
Kia India Launch Plans 2023
As on date, Kia India has over 7 lakh customers in the country. It took the automaker just 5 months to sell the the last 1 lakh units. Kia India has also accounted for 2 lakh exports to over 95 countries making it a leader in UV and MPV exports for the 3rd consecutive year since export operations commenced in 2019.
In April 2023, the Kia Seltos facelift was spied with a new rear design which includes twin exhausts and revised tail lights with sequential indicators. India debut of this Seltos facelift is planned for some time in coming months. Kia EV6 crossover was launched in June 2022. It was brought in as a fully imported model via the CBU route and limited to only 100 units. The company has re-opened bookings for the EV6.
