Kia Motors is readying a new sub 4 meter SUV which has been going by many names such as Baby Seltos or Mini Seltos. Internal codename of this car is QYi. Codename of Seltos is QXi. This compact SUV is now heading to the 2020 Auto Expo where it will make its global debut as a concept.
If you remember, Kia Seltos too had made its global debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. For the 2020 Auto Expo, Kia is readying baby Seltos. The car has been spotted on test on multiple occasions. The latest spy shots were clicked by automotive enthusiast Owaiz. Thanks to these new photos, we now have the first spy photo of the front.
Kia QYi sub 4 meter SUV, will be Kia’s third product to launch in India sometime in July 2020; after the Seltos and the upcoming Grand Carnival MPV. It will share underpinnings and engine line up with the Hyundai Venue. In the spy photo, we can see that the front headlight setup is very similar to that of the Hyundai Venue.
Mini Kia Seltos on test was under camouflage but its LED tail lamps were noted. Other features that can be noted are roof rails, shark fin antenna and a signature tiger nose front grille. Sharing most of its interiors also with the Venue SUV, the Kia QYI will also be a connected SUV with UVO Connect smart connectivity features.
It will sport ventilated seats, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a large touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility and a multi function steering wheel.
New Kia small SUV will share its platform, parts as well as engine lineup with the current Hyundai Venue. The 1.0 turbocharged petrol engine of Venue delivers 118 bhp power and 172 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed manual and 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. It will also get 1.2 liter petrol which will deliver 82 PS and 115 Nm; mated to 5 speed MT.
Diesel engine will be borrowed from Kia Seltos. The 1.5 liter diesel engine will be tuned to deliver less power and more mileage compared to Seltos. On board Seltos, this engine offers 115 bhp power and 250 Nm torque via 6 speed AT or MT. All engine options will be BS6 compliant from day 1.
Kia could price the new QYi compact SUV in a price range of Rs.7-12 lakhs, ex-sh. It will directly compete against the likes of other sub 4 meter SUVs on sale in India like Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Maruti Vitara Brezza.
