Kia Motors has launched the Seltos in its home market of South Korea a month ahead of India launch on 22 August 2019. In Korea, the Seltos compact SUV is presented in three variants of Trendy, Prestige and Noblesse priced from KRW 19.29 million-26.36 million (Rs 11.30 lakh to Rs 15.44 lakh). In India, it will be offered in 5 diesel trims and 3 petrol trims with prices ranging from Rs 10-16 lakhs.

Kia Seltos has been opened for bookings in India and the company has announced that it has received over 6,000 bookings in a single day. This is a new record for any car in India, to amass such huge booking numbers on day 1.

Apart from the huge booking number, another surprising fact is that almost all of those who have booked the Seltos, have neither driven it, nor seen it in person. Plus, Kia is a new brand for India, and Seltos is their first car here. In spite of all this, booking numbers of Seltos are growing at a tremendous rate.

Top of the line variant of Kia Seltos will be seen with LED headlight, while the other variants will be seen with projector headlamps, as seen in the image above. Other features that will be missing, if you are buying anything other than the Seltos top variant are – LED DRL on the bonnet lip, LED DRL in the tail lamp, body coloured ORVMs, faux silver exhaust tip, roof rails, larger dual tone alloys, etc.

Kia Seltos is an internet connected car. It gets a 10.25” touchscreen infotainment system with Kia’s UVO connected car technology. It also sports an 8” display, auto air conditioning, ventilated front seats, power adjustable driver’s seat and a 7” multi information display.

It is also seen with an 8 speaker Bose surround system and safety features among which are a total of 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, vehicle stability management, hill control assist and front and rear parking sensors along with a 360 degree camera with blind view monitoring system and driving rear view monitor. Interiors can be chosen from multiple colour options, as seen in the image below.

Kia Seltos will be powered by petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.4 liter Turbo GDI offers 140 hp power and 242 Nm torque. The 1.5 liter petrol motor is capable of 115 hp power and 144 Nm torque while the 1.5 liter diesel engine makes 115 hp power and 250 Nm torque.

Kia is also offering three types of automatic gearbox on the Seltos with a 6 speed torque converter, 7 speed dual clutch transmission and an IVT. The DCT will be available on the 1.4 liter turbo petrol while IVT will be offered on the 1.5 liter petrol. The diesel engine will get 6 speed manual as well as 6 speed AT. Kia Seltos will find itself competing with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and recently launched MG Hector.
