Kia Seltos gets a good start in home country – Bookings cross 3k in 8 days

Already on sale in South Korea, the new Kia Seltos is a hit in the home market, if we are to believe the initial booking numbers revealed by PulseNews. As per their report, booking numbers of Kia Seltos have crossed the 3k mark in just 8 days. Price of Kia Seltos in S Korea starts from about Rs 11.5 lakhs.

In India, Kia Seltos will launch on 22nd August 2019. Bookings of the Seltos SUV will start from later this month. However, currently, certain dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings of the Seltos and have in fact promised deliveries around end of August. As per the expected schedule, most Kia dealerships across the country will be ready by 15th July, 2019 and customers will soon be able to see the Seltos in-flesh at these stores. Test drives may begin a little later, followed by an official price announcement on 22nd August, 2019.

Post MG Hector, it is the Kia Seltos which has managed to garner a good buzz in the Indian auto industry. Prospective car buyers are waiting for the launch of Seltos, in order to make their buying decision. With MG Hector waiting period already hitting the 7 month mark, it is the Seltos which is being awaited by SUV enthusiasts.

Kia has planned to set up 265 touchpoints in India, across 160 cities, by the time the Seltos goes on sale. It is interesting to see new OEMs entering the market with such confidence, especially when the industry is going through one of its toughest phase in the recent past.

Talking about the Seltos, it is a global SUV which has already been launched in South Korea and is scheduled to go on sale in other countries across Europe and even the US. The Seltos shares its platform with the next generation Creta and will be entering the heavily contested mid-sized SUV segment in the country.

Highlights of the Seltos include attractive design, state of the art quality interiors, leather seats, soft touch materials on the inside, large touchscreen infotainment system, internet connect features, voice command, head-up display, LED headlight and tail light. Thanks to being bigger than the Creta, Seltos will offer more space to passengers as well as a larger boot.

Once launched, the Seltos will take on the heavyweights like the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Nissan Kicks and the newly launched MG Hector. Pricing is expected to start around the INR 11 lakh mark and wrap up around INR 17 lakhs for the top-end diesel variant (ex-showroom prices).

As far as options are concerned, the Seltos will be offered with 3 different BS-VI compliant engine options, a 1.5 litre petrol (6-speed MT & CVT), a 1.5 litre diesel (6-speed MT & 6-speed AT) and a 1.4 litre turbo petrol which will come with options between a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed dual clutch AT. Petrol 1.5 delivers 115 hp / 144 Nm, Petrol 1.4 delivers 140 hp / 242 Nm and the 1.5 diesel delivers 115 hp / 250 Nm.
