Ever since its launch in Aug 2019, Kia Seltos monthly sales were growing at an aggressive rate. From posting about 6,200 units in Aug 2019, to over 14k units in Nov 2019 – the story of Kia Seltos in India was unlike any other car sales story the auto industry had seen in the recent past.

But, the record breaking success of Kia Seltos has come to a grinding halt in the month of Dec 2019. For Dec 2019, sales of Kia Seltos are just at 4,645 units. This is the lowest ever monthly sales reported by Seltos since launch.

It is not clear as to why this huge decline in sales. From Nov 2019, sales have declined by over 66%. Other manufacturers have also posted decline, but not of this magnitude. And other manufacturers are busy updating to BS6 engine, while Kia already has BS6 compliant engines in the Seltos.

Whatever be the case, this is expected to be a minor blip in the sales journey of Kia Seltos in India. For the month of October and November 2019, Kia Seltos was the best selling SUV in India. The same is not true for Dec 2019. Expect the tag of best selling SUV for Dec 2019 go to the likes of Maruti Brezza or Hyundai Venue.

Apart from domestic sales, exports of Kia Seltos are also strong. In Nov 2019, Kia exported over 3,800 units of Seltos from India. This makes Kia among the top 5 car exporters in India. Kia Motors has signed an agreement with Chennai Port Trust for exports while logistics will be taken care of by Glovis India Anantpur Pvt. Ltd. Kia Motors will exclusively use the Chennai Port for this purpose, and Chennai Port is also offering tailor made facilities for export of vehicles from Kia Motors India and concessional benefits for the same.

Kia Seltos comes in loaded with features. It gets a 10.25” touchscreen infotainment system, an 8” HUD and wireless charging, push button start and stop and ventilated seats along with an 8 way electronically adjustable driver seat. It also abounds in terms of safety equipment with side and curtain airbags, hill hold assist, vehicle stability management system, blind view monitor and tyre pressure monitor.

Offered in a range of 3 petrol and diesel engine options, each of which comply to BS VI emission standards, the Kia Seltos gets a 1.5 liter petrol, 1.4 liter turbo petrol and 1.5 liter diesel engine. The 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engines make 115 bhp power and 250 Nm torque and 115 bhp and 350 Nm torque respectively while the 1.4 liter turbo petrol engine is capable of 138 bhp power and 242 Nm torque.
