Kia India maintains the No 3 position in the Indian auto industry for the second month in a row

One of the newest car brand in India, Kia Motors journey in the country has been a success story like no other. With just two cars on offer, it is now the 3rd largest car brand in India, in terms of passenger car sales. For the 2nd month in a row, Kia Motors has posted sales that are higher than the sales reported by India’s big car companies like Tata, Mahindra, Honda, Renault, Toyota, Volkswagen, etc.

Kia Motors sales in March 2020 stood at 8,583 units, which is just behind the sales of Maruti and Hyundai, which are the No 1 and No 2 car companies in India. As Kia was not present in India in March 2019, there is no YoY comparison of sales available. But, when we compare MoM sales of Kia Motors India, March 2020 sales have registered a huge decline.

In Feb 2020, Kia India had registered sales of 15,644 units, which was their highest monthly sales till date in the country. From that, to below 9k units sold in March 2020 – is a staggering sales decline of 7,061 units or 45.14%. Of the 8,583 units 7,466 units were of Seltos SUV and 1,117 units were of Carnival. Exports for March 2020 stand at 2,585 units.

Speaking about the decline in sales, Kia India says, “Owing to the global pandemic and countrywide lockdown, Kia Motors India had stopped its wholesale billings on March 16th 2020, avoiding unnecessary unsold inventory at its dealerships. Counting on the booking numbers of Kia cars, the company is expecting a positive sentiment in buyers for Seltos and Carnival after the lockdown period.”

“Countries and businesses across the globe have come to a standstill due to the COVID-19 epidemic and has impacted the automobile industry as well with production units, offices and dealership suspending all its operations temporarily. Kia Motors India also stands with the entire automobile industry and is working with the state and central government to extend all possible support and assistance to fight and overcome this situation.”

“Keeping up with its commitment to customers to provide best in class ownership experience, the company has announced the extension of its free service period by two months. During this time period, all Kia dealerships are available on call and are accessible for all their requirements through Kia’s various digital channels. Customers can also experience Kia’s industry leading online sales system and booking facility on its official website and for more information related to its services.”
