Kia Sonet front and rear spied during BS6 emission test

Kia Sonet global debut date is 7th August, ahead of that, the SUV has been spied while being tested for emission norms

Kia Motors has noted much success in India with its Seltos and Carnival. Both cars have gone to become best-sellers of their respective segment. Seltos has gone ahead and become top selling SUV for a few times in the past months.

Already Kia has managed to eat into the market share of some prominent car makers like Maruti, Tata and Mahindra – and that too in such a short span of time. But they are not going to stop here. Their next car, is expected to bring an even bigger disruption in the SUV market, than the Seltos.

Kia Sonet is a 5 seater sub 4 meter SUV which will make global debug in India on August 7, 2020. Launch date is expected to be sometime in late August or in September. But ahead of that, the SUV continues to be on test – this time for BS6 emission testing.

The latest spy shots of Kia Sonet reveals the front and rear parts like never before. The front is almost fully undisguised, except for the cover on the bonnet. The familiar tiger nose grille is clearly visible. The single tone alloys and missing sunroof indicate that this is probably a mid trim. Rear features sporty bumpers, LED tail lights with LED stop light strip on the tailgate.

Technology Loaded

Kia Sonet is positioned on the same platform as the Hyundai Venue with which it will also share its engine lineup. Interiors will see some segment first features in the form of a 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system as is also seen on the Kia Seltos. It will also get UVO connected technology with artificial intelligence based voice assistant system and a Bose audio system.

Borrowing its engine lineup from the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet will be powered by a 1.0 liter turbo petrol engine with dual clutch automatic transmission. This engine option will also get the iMT transmission, which was recently launched with the Venue.

Sonet will also get a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine making 82 hp power and 115 Nm torque. Diesel engine option will include a 1.5 liter engine offering 99 hp power and 240 Nm torque. These two engines will get mated to 5 speed manual and 6 speed manual respectively.

Right Pricing

Kia Sonet will find itself in the midst of a highly competitive compact SUV segment in India. These include stalwarts such as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Venue. It will also face competition from the upcoming Renault Kiger, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Nissan Magnite.

Hence the correct pricing with be vital to the success of Kia Sonet. Considering that Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta are priced similarly, it is very much possible that same is the case with Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Venue price range starts from Rs 6.7 lakhs and goes all the way to Rs 11.6 lakhs. Expect Sonet to be priced in a similar range.
