Kia Sonet will launch on 18th September in a possible price range of Rs.7-12 lakhs
It was on 7th August that Kia Motors revealed their new Sonet SUV. Pre bookings opened on 20th August and on the first day itself, the company amassed bookings to the tune of 6,500 units. The first examples of the small SUV has arrived at the company’s dealership in multiple cities. Dealers have started allowing customers to experience the car in person.
Kia Sonet will be the third offering from the company in India following the Seltos and Carnival. It enters a highly competitive compact SUV segment in India, which already has cars like Venue, Nexon, XUV300, EcoSport, Brezza and soon to be launched Urban Cruiser.
To be offered in two trims of Tech Line and GT Line, Sonet sit on a wheelbase of 2,500mm and measure 3,995mm in length, 1,790mm in width and 1,647mm in height. Ground clearance will be at 211mm, boot space at 392 liters and fuel tank will be of 45 liter capacity. Below is the official 8 minute video of Kia Sonet, which details all the features.
The Kia Sonet will sport LED head and tail lamps and width will be further accentuated with a reflector bar running across its tail gate. The 5 seater compact SUV will get an electric sun roof, tiger nose grille, shark fin antenna, back rear diffuser and rear wiper while it will sit on 16 inch dual tone alloy wheels.
Interiors
The video also details the interior of the Kia Sonet which will see some first in segment features. The interiors will be dominated by a large 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system offering Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and UVO connect with 57 features including voice assist and telematics.
Sonet will get a 4.2 inch digital instrument cluster, multi function steering wheel and ventilated driver and front passenger seats. Considering the present coronavirus pandemic that has caused havoc in the country, Kia Motors is also offering a smart pure air virus purifier with the Sonet. Other interior features will include a Bose 7 speaker sound system, with sub-woofer, wireless phone chargers and LED sound mood lighting.
Safety equipment on the Sonet will include a total of 6 airbags, hill assist control, vehicle stability management, tyre pressure monitoring system and ESC and traction control along with ABS and EBD.
Engine Lineup
Kia Sonet will receive petrol and diesel engine options as are also seen on the Hyundai Venue. The petrol engine lineup will include a 1.2 liter, 4 cylinder engine making 82 hp power and 115 Nm torque; and a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder, turbocharged engine capable of 118 hp power and 172 Nm torque. The diesel engine will be a 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine in two states of tune, offering 99 hp power and 240 Nm torque in MT; 114 hp power and 250 Nm torque in AT. Petrol engines will get MT, iMT and DCT option. Below are the expected prices of each variant of Sonet.
