The concept of a feature-loaded sub 4m SUV is not new to India. Time and time again, contenders have emerged on top and have been toppled by one of the rivals. This is a self-sustaining cycle that will go on as the segment evolves, trying to meet evolving trends within buyers, among other factors.

Mahindra XUV3XO was the most recent offering in this segment to defy expectations in features, equipment and premium experience. Now, Kia Syros will soon launch in India, promising more of everything that rivals currently offer. It will be positioned above Turbo Petrol variants of Sonet sub 4m SUV and below Seltos compact SUV.

Bookings of Kia Syros will commence today, post 12 AM for a nominal booking fee of Rs 25,000. Buyers get to choose from six trim levels – HTK, HTK (O), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+ (O). There are four powertrain combinations to choose from – G1.0 Turbo Petrol MT, G1.0 Turbo Petrol DCT, 1.5 CRDi MT and 1.5 CRDi AT.

There are 8 monotone colours to choose from – Frost Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Sparkling Silver, Gravity Grey, Intense Red, Imperial Blue, Pewter Olive and Aurora Black Pearl. Based on the trim levels, Kia is offering 15-inch steel wheels, 16-inch alloy wheels and 17-inch alloy wheels along with four interior colour themes and upholstery.

Extensive Choices

Kia has ensured that Syros buyers get a plethora of options to choose from with respect to trims, powertrains and colours. As seen in our detailed variant-wise breakdown, HTK+ and HTX trims get the most number of powertrain combinations and are likely to be the most popular too. Lower trims favour manual gearbox options and higher trims only get automatic options.

On the outside, we see a tall boy vehicle bearing Kia’s latest interpretation of Opposites Unite design language. It gets headlights that emerge from its wheel arch claddings, similar to what we saw in Tasman, signifying width, a side profile reminiscent of its platform sibling Hyundai Casper, flush door handles, and a unique rear with L-shaped LED signature and bumper-mounted tail lights.

Exterior design might prove to be slightly radical, but the company is hoping customers will fathom it in favour of the interiors. Kia Syros promises best-in-segment interior room, sliding and reclining rear seats, ventilated front and rear seats, 30-inch Trinity display, with two 12.3-inch (largest in segment) screens sandwiching a 5-inch climate control screen, a dashcam, 360-camera, radar-based Level-2 ADAS and many more features.
