With all the safety credentials and reinforced K1 platform Kia Syros is packing, is a 5 star safety rating on its way?
Stunning the country, Kia India unveiled the Syros SUV at a grand event in Delhi NCR. This sub 4m SUV is larger than Sonet, where height and width are concerned. Thus promising more space and comfort on the inside, comparable to a compact SUV. Even in terms of tech, Kia Syros is loaded to the brim, featuring many first-in-segment attributes.
Kia Syros Aiming for 5 star Safety Rating?
Where safety is concerned, Kia Syros doesn’t leave any stone unturned. The company is offering 6 airbags, a reinforced body shell, radar based Level-2 ADAS with 16 autonomous features and more. Is Kia Syros aiming for a 5 Star crash rating from Bharat NCAP? Let’s take a look at Syros’ safety credentials.
Underneath all the style and panache, Kia Syros is underpinned by Hyundai-Kia’s K1 platform. The company mentioned that this K1 platform in Syros is a reinforced version for superior structural integrity. Within Hyundai Group’s portfolio, K1 platform was introduced in 2018 and was a modified version of the older SA platform.
Vehicles that also rolled down the road underpinned by this platform include Hyundai Santro, Grand i10 NIOS, Aura sedan, Casper and its electric version, Inster, and Hyundai’s Exter. As opposed to the 2,400 mm and 2,450 mm wheelbase variations seen in Hyundai cars, K1 platform in Kia Syros gets a 2,550 mm wheelbase.
Kia India is offering all four disc brakes with automatic variants, while manuals still get rear drum brakes. Beyond the reinforced version of K1 platform, Syros’ radar-based ADAS suite is very impressive. This is the first time a vehicle in sub 4m SUV space has introduced a radar-based Level-2 ADAS and Syros packs as many as 16 autonomous features.
Notable among these 16 features include FCW (Forward Collision Warning), FCA (Forward Collision Avoidance Assist for Car, Cycle, Pedestrian, Junction and Direct Oncoming), SCC (Smart Cruise Control) with Stop & Go, LKA (Lane Keep Assist), LFA (Lane Follow Assist), PCA-R (Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Reverse) and even HBA (High Beam Assist).
20 Standard Hi-Safety Features
Apart from these ADAS features, Kia has also incorporated attributes like a Blind View Monitor in instrument cluster and a 360-degree camera in infotainment screen. Kia Connect Diagnostics, OTA (Over The Air) updates to continually improve the system and more. Kia Connect 2.0 telematics gets features like SOS and Call Centre assisted Navigation as well. Syros comes equipped with standard 20 Hi-Safety features too. 6 airbags, 3-point seat belts and seat belt reminders for all occupants, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), HSA (Hill Start Assist), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), electronic parking brake with auto hold, are notable safety features on Syros.
With its robust safety credentials, Kia Syros is poised to set a new benchmark in the sub-4m SUV segment. Featuring a reinforced K1 platform, six airbags, radar-based Level 2 ADAS with 16 autonomous features, and 20 standard Hi-Safety features, Syros embodies Kia’s commitment to passenger safety. These advancements position it as a strong contender for achieving a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, potentially making it the first Kia car to earn this prestigious safety accolade in India. If successful, this would further solidify Kia’s reputation for delivering vehicles that prioritize innovation, safety, and customer trust.
