Despite Kia Syros and Sonet falling in the same size bracket, they are completely unique in their exterior and interior packaging
With the unveiling of Syros, Kia India has stunned the country’s SUV buyers. Ahead of the unveiling, the company was tight lipped about Syros’ dimensions and speculations suggested that it would be larger than Sonet. While Kia called Syros a C-Segment SUV, it is a Sub 4m offering that is very close to Sonet in dimensions.
This might have created a confusion among buyers between the two sub 4m SUVs. However, Syros has quite a lot of tricks up its sleeve to distinguish itself from Sonet. In this post, we compared both sub 4m SUVs from Kia to see how they fare against each other in specs, features, safety and dimensions.
Kia Syros Vs Sonet
The comparison between Kia Syros and Sonet has to start with dimensions as that’s the area that is the most common between the two. Both SUVs measure 3,995 mm in length. Syros is 15 mm wider and 38 mm taller and has a 50 mm longer wheelbase than Sonet. Wheel size on Syros goes till 17-inches, while Sonet’s top off at 16-inches. Tyre width is the same.
When compared to Sonet’s 385L boot, Syros offers a 5L larger boot as standard at 390L. However, higher variants get sliding and reclining seats that can take the boot till 465L, 80L more than Sonet’s. Syros’ ground clearance is not disclosed. What catches the viewer’s attention is that Syros is a lot boxier and has more visual bulk, making Seltos look lean and athletic.
Sonet is underpinned by Hyundai-Kia’s K2 platform, while Syros is underpinned by a reinforced version of Hyundai-Kia’s K1 platform. Both Sonet and Syros are yet to be crash-tested. Except for the missing 1.2L Kappa Petrol engine, Syros has the same powertrain options as Sonet and is in the same state of tune.
Gearbox options, on the other hand, are slightly different. For starters, Syros has manual gearbox options with a 1.0L Turbo Petrol engine. Also, Syros doesn’t get iMT options with Petrol and Diesel engines, something Sonet offers. Just like the Sonet, Syros gets Traction Modes on automatic variants.
Features and Creature Comforts
This is where Kia Syros redeems itself the most as opposed to Sonet. For starters, Syros gets Level-2 ADAS suite with 16 autonomous features. Also, Syros gets a radar-based ADAS system, as opposed to Sonet’s camera-based system. Syros gets a panoramic sunroof and a more sophisticated ambient lighting system. Both vehicles lack rain-sensing wipers.
Syros distinguishes itself from Sonet in back-seat experience by offering sliding and reclining seats. Rear seats of Syros get ventilated function. Although it is only for the thighs and not for backrest. Both Syros and Sonet offer front seat ventilation and powered driver’s seat. In higher variants of Syros, Kia offers dual-channel Dashcam as standard, which is not seen on Sonet.
