Just yesterday Kolkata Police announced that they have bought a total of five Harley Davidson Street 750 motorcycles which will be used to escort VIPs in the state. Bought at an approximate sum of INR 30 lakhs, these are the most powerful motorcycles to be included in service by Kolkata Police.
Before the Harley Street, it was the Bullet 350 which was the most powerful two wheeler in service. Seeing the Harley being included in service, many cops who are currently patrolling on Bullet 350, were hopeful that they too would be given Harley Davidson Street 750 in the near future. But that is not going to happen. The Street 750 will strictly be used for escorting VIPs, and not for normal patrolling.
If this was not enough, the cops who are proudly patrolling on Royal Enfield Bullet 350 currently, got yet another shock. The state is reportedly going to replace the entire fleet of Bullet 350 with TVS Apache. This is being done to reduce expenses. Kolkata Police has already started to phase out Royal Enfield Bullet 350, which are now being replaced by Apache.
City Watch fleet have already started receiving new Apache motorcycles as they are not only more economical on fuel, but also easier to maintain. Compared to the Bullet 350, the Apache is faster as well as easier to handle in city traffic.

Many of the sergeants who are currently using state-owned Royal Enfields, are hugely disappointed. They feel that moving to Apache is a downgrade and hope that they too are upgraded to Harley Davidson Street 750.
Made in India, Street 750 is the most affordable Harley Davidson on offer in the country. It is powered by a twin cylinder 750 cc engine which delivers 65 Nm of torque, giving the bike really good acceleration and pick-up. It has a top speed of 180 kmph.
