News about KTM working on entry level adventure series of motorcycles keeps popping up every now and then, for some years now. But never has been there a word about its launch plans, or to be precise launch timing. Not anymore. If we are to believe a new report from Autocar Professional, the launch of KTM Adventure 200 or the KTM Adventure 390 (actual name could be different) could take place as early as April / May 2016!
Jointly developed by KTM and Bajaj, this new series of entry level motorcycles will be manufactured by Bajaj at their plant in Chakan, where KTM Duke 125, 200, 390 and KTM RC 125, 200, and 390 are produced.
The report adds that work on building these adventure tourers began back in 2011. Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM had also hinted about the development of Asian market specific adventure tourers. These new adventure tourers will make the KTM line-up complete in a way, and help them achieve even higher sales.
Under-pinned on the same platform as that of Duke 200 / 390, these new adventure touring motorcycles from KTM will take on the likes of Bajaj Pulsar AS200, Mahindra Mojo 300 and the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan, which is scheduled for a launch on 16th March.
It is still not clear which of the two (Adventure 200 or Adventure 390) will be launched first. The design of the two will be inspired by the company’s larger adventure touring bikes, like the KTM 950 and 1190 Adventure, which are already on sale in many countries across the globe.
Speaking of the engine, there are not expected to be any changes, as the 200 Adventure will get the same 200 cc seen on the Duke 200 while 390 Adventure will get Duke 390’s mill. There might be some tuning made toe the engine output so as to make it more pleasurable for adventure touring. Expect the adventure series to be slotted between the Duke and RC in the company line-up.
