An 18-year-old biker crashed into a school bus at the Kanakpura Road in Bengaluru. It was a narrow escape for 12 school kids aboard the bus which burst into flames after the biker lost control while taking a corner and crashed into the bus’ fuel tank. Biker Venkatesh died in the accident.
Venkatesh, 18, a student of Vijaya College and his female friend were returning from WonderLa amusement park on the KTM Duke and were riding towards Tataguni Estate. The accident occurred at around 4.15 when the school bus of Sri Manjunatha School with 12 kids on board was going towards Agara to drop the kids back home. The bike struck the bus fuel tank while taking a turn and the impact was such that the bus immediately caught fire.
A passerby alerted the fire and emergency services and even as they arrived immediately and doused the fire, the bus was completely gutted. Devraj, the driver of the school bus saved all the kids in the nick of time. The kids were later sent to their respective home via another bus. Devraj, then fled the scene as he feared questioning from the police.
Venkatesh who suffered serious injuries, died in the hospital. While his female friend escaped with minor injuries. Both were taken to a nearby hospital in a Maruti Omni by a concerned citizen, as no ambulance was on hand. Eye witnesses reveal that Venkatesh was riding in a reckless manner, further investigations are underway. Neither of the riders were wearing any protective gear.
