KTM India sales cross 50k in 10 months – Thanks to Duke, RC 125

2019 KTM RC 125

Thanks to volume generators like KTM 125 and KTM 200, KTM India has been able to achieve the fastest 50k sales. Total sales in the last 10 months from November ’18 to August ’19 is 50,007 units.

Maximum contribution in terms of numbers has been made by smaller capacity KTM bikes. Highest contribution in quantitative terms is from KTM 125 (Duke + newly launched RC), with total sales of 22,374 units. This is 44.74% of the total KTM bikes sold during the last 10 months.

Not far behind is KTM 200 (Duke + RC), which was the first KTM bike to be launched in the Indian market in 2012. Till recently, it was the top selling KTM in India. However, after launch of KTM 125 Duke and RC 125, there has been a consistent close fight of numbers between KTM 125 and KTM 200.

KTM India sales 50k

In the last 10 months, KTM 125 has been the top selling KTM in six months whereas KTM 200 was ahead in four months. KTM 125 also holds the distinction of achieving monthly sales of more than 3k in February and March 2019. KTM 125 is the most affordable performance oriented bike in the Indian market, which allows it to target a much larger customer base.

Talking about KTM 200, total sales in the last 10 months stood at 19,372 units. This is 38.74% of the total KTM sales in the last 10 months. KTM 200 has been quite consistent, averaging sales of around 2k units per month.

While KTM 125 has registered negative MoM growth of -3.19% in August, KTM 200 has registered positive MoM growth of 22.01%. However, YoY growth for KTM 200 has been negative at -21-20% in August 2019. That’s most likely due to the on-going slowdown.

KTM will soon be adding a new chapter in the Indian market with the launch of 790 Duke. This will be KTM’s flagship bike and the most powerful and the most expensive KTM in the country. 790 Duke has started reaching dealerships and it will be launched on September 23.

It will be powered by a 799 cc engine liquid cooled engine that generates 105 hp power and 87 Nm torque. Engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Expected price is in the range of Rs 8 – 8.5 lakh.
