Leicester City players gifted BMW i8, all 19 cars of same colour

Club’s chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha shelled out £2 million for 19 BMW i8s presented to Leicester City players for their historic win.

All 19 BMW i8s which were gifted were in electric blue because that is the shade which is very close to the Leicester City’s home colour blue. The cars were presented to Leicester City players following a historic English Premier League win.

The hybrid sports cars were purchased for £2 million by the Club’s Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. Four players from the champion’s squad, Joe Dodoo, Andrej Kramaric, Yohan Benalouane and N’Golo Kante, did not receive these i8s with one having recently moved to Chelsea after claiming the title while 3 others were used as substitutes.


The BMW i8s were shipped over from Germany and delivered by special transport to King Power Stadium where they were handed over to the Leicester players.The 19 hybrid BMW i8s are priced at £105,000 ($180,700/INR 1,20,59,095) each or just under $3.5 million for the entire lot of 19 units. The players were initially promised Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive but the model was changed to the BMW i8 in an electric blue.

BMW i8 is on sale in India for a price of over INR 2.5 crore. It competes with the likes of Mercedes AMG GTS, Audi R8 and Jaguar F-Type. BMW i8 is powered by a turbocharged 1.5 liter three cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with eDrive electric drive system. This combination takes total output to 362 hp at 5,800 rpm and 570 Nm torque from 1,200 to 5,000 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 4.4 seconds while top speed stands at 250 kmph.
